Argentina plays Germany on Friday in the final 8 world cup games. My brother David says the guy to watch for on Argentina is Lionel Messi. He turns 19 soon and apparently he's in all the ads in Argentina. We're rocking with Argentina on my block. The game jumps off at 11:00.

A History of Graffiti in Its Own Words...

This is a pretty ambitious attempt on behalf of New York Magazine to document the history of Graffiti in a few short pages. They do a surprisingly good job. The article is similar to Freight Train Graffiti in that it utilizes quotes from various members of the graffiti community to illustrate it's main points. Overall, a quick read with some really nice vintage graffiti photos for your viewing pleasure. Read it HERE

Check this mix from QuestLove of the Roots for Radio One. Thanks Sheek Ass Shaun for the connect.

Pitchfork Media's 100 Favorite Videos

I usually hate on Pitchfork because they are real wack with their hip-hop reviews and generally sweat whatever The Fader thinks is cool. But this time they got it right. 100 cool music videos, well organized and easily viewable via Youtube. Check it out here

What it do, Boston?

My doods at NGP are throwing down tonight with DJ Eleven at Underbar. I hope lots of people go to this.

World Cup Poster Art

Really cool Poster Art. Say word.

Today

Steve Powers, one of my favorite artists, is doing some weird stuff for the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island this afternoon. I'm gonna go check it out. Then I'm heading back into the city to celebrate ME. Sike. But I'm having my "moving to Miami" jump off at my homegirl Jesse's restaurant tonight at 7 in the West Village. Peep the Miami Vice invite and come through if you are in NY and aren't afraid to brave the rain.

NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting

My friend Wendy wrote an article for Cool Hunting about a film called NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting. Check it out here and if you are in NYC tomorrow or Friday, you can go see it at the Vibe Urban World Film Festival.

UPDATE:: Last night I went to the premier of this movie. If you are a graffhead or you like street art, this is bananas. It's super long and the director basically travels to 10 cities including Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Osaka, Berlin, NYC, Paris, London and some others I can't remember to document the people who are pushing the limits of street art and doing new and interesting things. Some of the highlights for me included Jon 156, Swoon, Akim from Germany, Lee Quiones, Jose Parla, Os Gemeos and Nina. Definitely check for the film. Peep the website for more info.

Check out Caleb!

I'm late with this post, but it doesn't matter. My dood Caleb is having a huge show at the Boston Center for the Arts. I hope to check it out in the next couple days. If you are in Boston you should really go see this. Caleb's stuff is great and the artist he collaborated with for this show, Andrew Schoultz, is also incredible. I'm very excited about this. The opening was last night but the gallery is open today and tomorrow so get over there.

Next Stop...Miami

Tell Trick Daddy and DJ Khaled to make room for me! Over the next couple weeks I'll be making the move down to Miami. I start my new job there on July 10th. If anyone knows people in Miami that I should know, please put me in touch. It's going to be a big adjustment after spending two of the most incredible years of my life in Brooklyn. I feel really lucky that I had the opportunity to spend time here but I'm excited about taking the next step. Holler at me!

Jose y Pedro

I really like this ad by Adidas. There's good graffiti in the background and the music is great. To top it all off, the concept here is fresh with two kids choosing opposing lineups of all-star players for a dream match. If you want the track, it's called "eanie meanie" by Jim Noir. I thought it was RJD2 but I was wrong. Anyone know where this was shot?

The Flipmode Report...

A car crashes into Scott Storch's house in Miami and Busta Rhymes catches everything that ensues on tape. This video is hillarious. Will Castro from Unique Autosports in Miami makes a cameo in the clip. I interviewed him for a Honda Project last year. By the way, I was in Miami yesterday. It was really hot there.

USA Soccer Raps?

Clint Dempsey of the USA soccer team apparently does his Houston rap thing on the side. I find this incredibly corny, but if it makes him happy/money, and it gets kids to buy Nike shoes, then I guess it's mission accomplished. Houston hip-hop hits a new low. Sorry...I'm a hater.

Flicks From Last Week

Last week I took pictures for the Freight Train Graffiti Symposium at the Chelsea Museum of Art. A bunch of folks came out and even though the audio was real bad and the weather didn't cooperate, it was a good time. Here are some pictures from the evening. Roger Gastman, Martha Cooper and the guy who took the pictures for Norman Mailer's infamous book "The Faith of Graffiti"
Sascha Jenkins-publisher of Mass Appeal Magazine, and another guy I don't know
Some old school graffiti doods
Some newer school graffiti doods and an old school graffiti lady

What happened to Kanye and Pharrell?

Has anyone seen the video for Number 1, the new track featuring Pharrell and Kanye West? Personally, I think it sucks. And so does Matt from AmIHigh.Com. Check out what he has to say about it on his site. I think he's pretty right on.

Sadness...Newton Iowa

Tomorrow my mom is going back to her hometown of Newton, Iowa for her high school reunion. The picture above is Sir Rustalot, a dragon that sits on the grass in front of the Newton Public Library. My mom and her sisters commissioned it to be built in recognition of my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. Anyway...The Maytag Company, which has been based in Newton for over 100 years, was recently bought by Whirlpool who will be moving the entire operation to Ohio. This means that the town of Newton will be changed forever because Maytag employs a ton of people and has pretty much single-handedly held down the town's economy for years. It's really sad. I spent a lot of time in Newton when I was growing up. It really sucks and I can't help but be pissed about it. I think this article in the Times today kind of sums up the situation. Thanks to A. Lee for the hookup.

Oh...and if you don't know about a maid-rite sandwich, you better ask somebody.

Beautiful Losers Video

Check out the new Beautiful Losers Documentary. Really nice behind the scenes stuff from people who make nice things like KAWS, Barry McGee and some others.

Vintage Boston Graff Video...

I think my dood Matt made this video in like 1998 or 99 in conjunction with a show he put together at Simmons College featuring prominent graffiti artists like SP.ONE, WOMBAT and MONK. This video is great and might make you a bit nostalgic if you are from Boston. Enjoy.
