DESIGN OF THE YEAR

Yesterday Shepard Fairey was awarded the Design of the Year award from the Design Museum of London for his image of Barack Obama.

NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

Today the National Portrait Gallery in DC announced it has acquired Shepard Fairey's "HOPE" poster of Obama for their collection. Shep continues to establish himself as the most important pop artist of our generation. Pretty cool. Also...the ICA in Boston is doing a 20 year retrospective of Shepard's work next month, which will definitely be worth checking out.

Shepard Farirey's work combines politics and pop culture. I think that his entire career has been leading up to this project, and I'm siked to see how he capitalized on the opportunity to influence the 2008 political election with his images of Obama. Check it!
